The fields in front of our house have finally had the hay baled and removed off to the farm. The difference in terms of nature is incredible. Within minutes of the last load of bales leaving the fields the whole area was alive with a huge variety of birds all pecking around for their favourite morsels. Then, at dusk, Mrs GG watched the barn owl return to its field quartering role – a lovely site. In the very early hours of the morning – still totally dark – a vixen sat in the middle of the nearest field, howling – presumably for a mate.
How on earth does nature make such instant and brilliant moves? For humans to even approach such success would require hours on the iPhone, dozens of messages and emails and texts coming out by the yard. Our early ancestors would have been far better attuned to nature than we are.
